a drug free alternative for migraine pains
Migraine is the most common and under-looked problem in the world. Almost 1.3Bn. People suffer from migraine. However, it seems to be a minor headache. Migraine is one of the leading causes of lack of productivity and discomfort in day-to-day tasks. Medication associated with migraine brings many side effects. The brief of the project is to find a drug-free alternative for managing migraine pain and find a prolonged solution for improvement in a patient’s condition.

Migraine? how does that work?
A throbbing or pulsating pain; mostly at one side of the brain that can last for few hours to days and is usually accompanied with nausea and aura

While these symptoms seem to be easy and manageable, Migraine attacks leave the patients helpless and cause a huge disturbance in their day-to-day functioning. The major lack of productivity and ability to function normally leaves a major impact on mental health. As high drug dependency causes major side effects, most migraines are either untreated or handled with home remedies which might not be the right solution.

TaVNS
Trans-auricular Vagus Nerve Stimulation
finding the solution
Trans-auricular vagus nerve stimulation is a method of curing physiological and nervous disorders without medications. It works on the principles of sending micro-pulses and small amounts of shocks in the brain to reduce the pain. TaVNS specifically targets the auricular branch of the vagus nerve in the left ear to treat migraine. It ensures non-invasive method to prevent migraines.
After understanding the technology behind the TaVNS administration, I started working with developing sketches and ideate around all the necessary features of the product


Creating prototypes using FDM and SLS 3D printing technology and getting the pulse-width modulator to create the basic internal electronics of the device.

Three-step slider button to shift modes between the pulses' nature: throbbing, pulsating, and sine waves. This helps in adjusting the intervals and the comfort of the pulse

rotating universal ring that helps in clipping the product anywhere, it also acts as a stand to keep the product upright when kept on the flat surface.

After analysing the ear casts, the best possible way to get the right fit is by creating a custom earpeice for each ear. The form is a simply U-shaped, with two electrodes to touch down and complete the circuit.

Green being the only color that does not trigger migraine pains was a natural selection for the color of the product. The calming pastel shades with darker accents of same color gives a soothing and comforting look to the device.

A therapy device is not the only solution for managing and combating migraine. Understanding and recording the nature, frequency, and other migraine triggers is also important to know it better. NeuroEase mobile application provides a complete solution for recording, analyzing and managing migraine pains.

The app is designed while keeping in mind the needs and situations in which a migraine patient or their caretaker would use it. From using simpler and larger buttons to calming green colors, the NeuroEase app tries to be a bridge in curing and taking care of the patient in the long run. The neomorphic design gives a softer feel to the app while ensuring the clear and solid accabilities to the device control and other different features.
